Education Law

All children living in Ontario have the right to public education and are required, with some exceptions, to attend school between the ages of 6 to 18. Certain students with disabilities who are identified as “exceptional” through formal processes (set out in the Education Act) may remain in a secondary program until the age of 21.

Furthermore, students have the right to education without discrimination based on a protected ground under the Human Rights Code, including disability. Education service providers have an obligation to provide services in a manner free from discrimination and to provide the most appropriate accommodations to students with disabilities short of undue hardship.
